One Day at a Time: Holding Steady in the Storm
What William James reminds me when life gets heavy.
They ask, “How do you do it?”
Or they say, “You’re strong.”
And I appreciate it — I do. But here’s the truth:
It’s one day at a time.
With everything going on in Tabby’s health journey, I’ve had to stop trying to conquer the mountain all at once. These days, I’m just putting one foot in front of the other, staying present, and giving grace — to myself, to her, and to the moment.
That William James quote hit me like a steel beam to the chest.
"Be willing to have it so."
Not ignore it. Not muscle through it. But accept what is — even when it hurts. Especially then.
Because the only way forward is through.
I wrote more about what this season has looked like here:
👉 Holding On at Home, Holding the Line in Harrisburg
In the face of uncertainty, I’m learning to measure strength not by how loudly we speak or how much we push — but by how we stay, how we listen, and how we love in the quiet hours between the fight.
So if you're in your own storm — I see you.
You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t even have to be brave.
Just be here. That’s enough.
And if you’re someone who prays, send one up for Tabby. She’s the strongest one of all.
